Steppe Husbandry is a technology in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition that is unique to the Cumans and can be researched at the Castle. Once researched, Scout Cavalry line units, Steppe Lancers and Cavalry Archers are created 100% faster.
Strategy[]
Steppe Husbandry gives a similar effect like the Frankish unique technology Chivalry and the Gothic unique technology Perfusion, further boosting the creation speed of key units of the Cuman army, namely Light Cavalry, Steppe Lancers, and Cavalry Archers. If the player wants to create a quick, cost-effective army, this technology is useful, especially by its cost and the fact that all Cuman cavalry already move 10%/15% faster in the Castle/Imperial Age. However, it does not affect Kipchaks or Genitours.
In the Imperial Age, the creation speed can be improved with Conscription, and even more if the player has a Briton and/or a Hunnic ally, which makes their Archery Ranges and Stables work 10% and 20% faster, respectively.
Team bonuses[]
- Portuguese: Researching Steppe Husbandry is 25% faster.
History[]
How and when horses became domesticated has been disputed. The clearest evidence of early use of the horse as a means of transport is from chariot burials dated c. 2000 BCE. However, an increasing amount of evidence supports the hypothesis that horses were domesticated in the Eurasian Steppes approximately 3500 BCE.
Domestication of the modern horse's ancestors likely occurred in an area known as the Volga-Don, in the Pontic–Caspian steppe region of Western Eurasia, around 2200 BCE. These were located in the steppes southeast of the Ural Mountains, a region today divided between southern Russia and northern Kazakhstan.
Changelog[]
Definitive Edition[]
- Originally, Steppe Husbandry did not affect Steppe Lancers, and the effect was 400% (though the tech tree incorrectly stated 80%). With update 36202, Steppe Husbandry now benefits Steppe Lancers, and its effect is reduced to 100%.
