Stephan is a hero infantry unit in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - The Mountain Royals found in the campaign scenarios and the Scenario Editor. He has the appearance of a Warrior Priest. As a hero, Stephan cannot be converted and can regenerate health. He can heal friendly units at a rate of 2 hit points per second. He cannot collect Relics.

History[]
Stephan (1111-1165) was the Marshal of Armenia and the half-brother of Thoros II. He fought with his brother against the Byzantine armies of Manuel I in the Battle of Mamistra in 1152 and in the second Byzantine invasion in 1158. In 1162, he was invited by Andronicus Euphorbenus, the Byzantine governor stationed in Tarsus, who, by attempting to assassinate him, caused Thoros II to massacre the Byzantine garrisons in the region. The mediation of Amlaric of Jerusalem, who did not want a weakening of the Christian front against the Seljuks of Nur ad Din, would serve to achieve a temporary peace between the Byzantines and the Armenians, causing Andronicus Euphorbenus to be replaced by Konstantinos Kalamanos as the new Byzantine governor in Tarsus.
