Steeled Arrow is a technology in Age of Empires IV that can be researched at the Blacksmith or Forge starting in the Feudal Age. Once researched, it increases the ranged damage of all units and buildings by 1 (not including siege units and gunpowder units).
Note: Steeled arrow currently (likely unintentionally) increases the damage of Boiling Oil by +1 if it is researched before Boiling Oil.
Civilization bonuses[]
- Abbasid Dynasty: Research speeds are +15%/+20% faster while Golden Age tiers 2/3 are active. If Preservation of Knowledge has been researched, this technology costs -20%.
- Ayyubids: Research speeds are 25% faster while Golden Age tier 2 is active. The technology is granted for free when advancing to the Feudal Age with the Master Smiths branch of the Military Wing
- Byzantines: Research speeds are 30% faster per water level at buildings within the influence of a Cistern with the Dialecticus ability active.
- Chinese and Zhu Xi's Legacy: The technology researches 150% faster when the Blacksmith is supervised by an Imperial Official. For Zhu Xi's Legacy, this can be improved to 300% after researching Regional Inspection
- Delhi Sultanate: The technology is free, but takes 3.5x as long to research (210 seconds instead of 60 seconds).
- Holy Roman Empire and Order of the Dragon: The technology cost is reduced and research speed is increased by 50% if researched at the Meinwerk Palace.
- Malians: Technologies take less time to research based on how much gold has been obtained through trade.
Changelog[]
- Originally, the base research time for the Delhi Sultanate was 5x default (300 seconds). With update 8324, this was reduced to 3.5x default.
Campaign version[]
Because the four original campaigns have not been rebalanced since the release of the game, Steeled Arrow has the following main differences in these campaigns:
- It costs 25 food, 150 gold, is researched at the Arsenal instead of the Blacksmith, and takes 45 seconds to research. Because the Arsenal is a Castle Age building, Steeled Arrow cannot be researched until the Castle Age despite being a Feudal Age technology.
- It affects gunpowder ranged infantry
- The Mongols have access to an improved version of Steeled Arrow, which costs 175 stone extra and increases ranged damage by an additional +1 (+2 total).
