The Snow Monkey is one of the weakest Treasure Guardians in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties, but stronger than the Lion-Tailed Macaque and the Tibetan Macaque.

Like the two others, they are usually found in groups, up to ten Guardians for a single Treasure.

History[edit | edit source]

Scientific Name: Macaca fuscata
Approx. Size: 26 lb. (male); 12 lb. (female)
Diet: Fruit, seeds, leaves, berries, flowers, bird eggs, fungi, bark, invertebrates

The snow monkey, or “Japanese macaque,” is the most northerly living non-human primate on Earth, residing in the mountains of the Japanese Honshu regions. Although the snow monkey is most commonly known for its frequent visits to volcanic hot springs, such as outside the city of Nagano, it can survive in severe winter temperatures as cold 5° F. A small population of free-range snow monkeys also lives in the state of Texas, in the United States, but it is the only population outside of the monkey’s native Japan. This group was brought overseas in 1972.

The snow monkey has brown to gray fur, with a red face and bottom, and a short, stubby tail. It lives in multi-male and multi-female social groups with very rigid hierarchies in which infants are born into the social rank of their mothers. The snow monkey is famous for washing its food before eating.

Duber the Pet Monkey[edit | edit source]

Duber is a pet Snow Monkey in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties.

He is among the weakest pets in-game, with only Fang the Tame Coyote and Freitag the Pet Macaque being weaker, though he also has the worst attack among pets, tied with Freitag's.

Duber appears much more frequently than Freitag, always appearing in an unguarded Treasure in Siberia, as well as regularly in Honshu and Mongolia, and also on some versions of Silk Road.
