All players begin the winding valley that zigzags through the map, which provides direct access to the other player's bases. The uplands are accessible through small gaps between the forests and cliffs, and provide both a means of expansion and a way to potential flank enemies in the valley. Either approach can be easily defended, provided the player is not caught by surprise, and โ depending on the generation โ the valley road connecting players may contain small patches of forest as well, further restricting the approach. Additional Settlements can be found in the uplands, and are easily defensible due to the surrounding cliffs and forests. In games with more than two players, players starting in the middle will be at a slight disadvantage, as they will be hemmed in by players on both sides who will have an easier time expanding into the uplands.
Starting hunt consists of Chickens and Boars or Serows, with other potential huntables including Deer, Spotted Deer, and sometimes Green Pheasants. Predators include either Black Bears or Japanese Wolves, and Goats appear as herdables.
