A Skirmisher unit

The Skirmisher is an anti-archer ranged unit similar to the slinger in Age of Empires. The infantry unit is very weak to almost everything except archers. Skirmisher can be upgraded to Elite Skirmisher

Age of Empires III

The Skirmisher is a rifle-wielding light infantry unit that is similar to the Crossbowmen. The Skirmishers are weak because they have low hit points, but luckily their long-range attack makes up for that. The Skirmishers are very good units at countering and defeating enemy infantry, but they are worse against cavalry and artillery.

Real Info

The Skirmishers were infantry or even cavalry soldiers who were used ahead or alongside a much larger body of friendly troops. The Skirmishers were put in a skirmish line to harass the enemy or to protect their own troops from similar attacks by the enemy. The Skirmishers were usually lightly armored so they could move around the battlefield quickly, and they usually had longer ranged firearms
