—Age of Empires IV description |
The Siege Tower is a siege engine in Age of Empires IV that can be built and garrisoned by infantry units. It is used to move garrisoned units onto enemy walls.
Tactics[]
Siege Towers are theoretically used for placing units on top of enemy Stone Walls to bypass them or remove the defender's advantage. However, since the wall rework, those units have no way of getting down from the wall other than destroying the wall (which would then allow them to get on top or through the wall anyway) or using the Siege Tower again, making its unique ability essentially useless. Some players consider it bad manners or showboating to build Siege Towers in a multiplayer game because they have such little use.
Siege towers have extremely high hit point/resource cost, having 2.26 times as much hit point per unit wood as Battering Rams and not taking bonus damage from melee attacks, which means they could be really helpful in situations where enemy defenses and units auto-attack them instead of units which are a real threat. They move faster than Battering Rams, which means they can easily stay in front, which is pretty helpful for this task.

Changelog[]
- Originally, Siege Towers had 8 ranged armor. After Season Two Update 17718, they had 20 ranged armor. After update 9.1.176, they had 50 ranged armor. With update 12.0.1974, their ranged armor was replaced with 95% ranged resistance.
- Originally, Siege Towers had a base build time of 45 seconds, could garrison 8 units, had a move speed of 0.62 tiles per second, and had a turn radius of 200. After update 9.1.176, they have a base build time of 30 seconds, can garrison 10 units, have a move speed of 0.81 tiles per second, and have a turn radius of 280.
- With patch 10.1.48, the Order of the Dragon Siege Tower build time was reduced from 30 seconds to 19.5 seconds to compensate for having fewer units in the field to build with.
Campaign version[]
Because the campaigns do not get rebalanced with each update, Siege Towers maintain the same stats they have upon the release of each campaign. Therefore, in the original four campaigns:
- They cost 400 wood, have a base 45 second build time, and take up 3 population slots
- They have 1000 hit points but only 7 ranged armor, and move at 0.88 tiles per second
While in the The Sultans Ascend campaign:
- They have 50 ranged armor instead of 95% ranged resistance.
