Shipwreck is a custom map on Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings.
Description[]
The starting area of each player is in a central island with trees, gold, stone, and some sheep or Berry Bushes for food, and some Shore Fish as well. There's also plenty of deep water fish in the surrounding waters.
Not far from each player's encampment are the ruins of a ship of some kind, immediately giving off the impression of being stranded on an island with someone else. However, there are also some large shallows that make for easy crossings to a big ring of even more land and resources. Relics are standard on this map, but there are no huntables or predators.
Viable tactics[]
The initial idea is to survive on the small island with just groves of trees separating players from each other and fighting to survive with limited space and resources. But sooner or later, leaving the island via the shallows crossings will allow access to a glut of resources yonder. It is no easy task given how one will have to balance outer exploitation with home security.
A rather daring move would be to gather wood and stone enough to delete the starting Town Center and build a new one somewhere on the edge or corner of the map, so that there aren't any more restrictions to breathing room or booming. For a safer alternative, however, there's always the option of a Fast Castle to just build a new town outside of the island.
Naval Booming civilizations like the Persians and Italians will flourish on this map, while other civilizations with good home defenses (like the Teutons and Byzantines) will be hard pressed to be threatened in the early game, unless faced with notorious Drushing or Flushing civilizations like the Aztecs or Goths.
