“ | A German villager that is more expensive but gathers faster than a Settler. | ” |
—In-game description |
The Settler Wagon is an economic unit in Age of Empires III that is unique to the Germans and can only be shipped from the Home City until the "Germantown Farmers" Home City Card has been sent, which allows them to be trained at the Mill. It gathers twice as fast than Settlers but also costs wood, uses up two population, and has a much lower train limit. Unlike French Coureurs des Bois, Settler Wagons do not replace Settlers.
Settler Wagons construct buildings significantly faster than Settlers. Tasking more than one Settler to build a building only decreases the construction time by 25%, rather than halving it. This means that if players were to use two Settlers to build a building, they would only construct it 33% faster. Settler Wagons, however, construct buildings 100% faster than an ordinary Settler, which means a lot of time is conserved by using a Settler Wagon instead of Settlers to build buildings. Settler Wagons also have a 30% ranged resistance, unlike the usual hand resistance of Settlers, making them more resilient against ranged attacks, but slightly more vulnerable to hand attacks.
In standard random map games, the Germans start with three Settler Wagons instead of Settlers.
Tasks[]
Settler Wagons can be assigned with the same tasks as Settlers.
Civilization differences[]
- The United States can get Settler Wagons through the "German Immigrants" Home City Card, which causes a Settler Wagon to spawn at every new and existing Mill, and allows them to be trained from Mills starting in the Industrial Age, although with a much lower train limit of 5.
- The Maltese can train Settler Wagons at the Commandery through the "German Tongue" Home City Card, although with a much lower train limit of 6.

History[]
“ | Prairie Schooners and Conestoga Wagons were two types of covered wagons used by settlers and pioneers to cross the early frontiers of North America. Prairie Schooners were lighter and needed two or four horses or oxen to pull them. Conestoga Wagons were big, heavy wagons that needed teams of six or eight to pull them along. Before railroad tracks crisscrossed the Great Plains, Conestoga Wagons hauled most of the freight that went back and forth between the east and west coasts. Conestoga Wagons originated in a German area of Pennsylvania. | ” |
Trivia[]
- The Settler Wagon is dressed in traditional Bavarian clothing. His wagon is being pulled by a mule or a donkey. The driver talks in Standard German with a gentle and kind voice.
- The Settler Wagon resembles the Atlantean Citizen in Age of Mythology.
- Just like the Citizen in Age of Mythology: The Titans, the content Settler Wagons carry changes depend on the resources they are collecting. The content at Estates is the same as Mills and Berry Bushes, however.
