San Luis Potosí is a Fortress Age Federal State in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, available to the Mexicans. As soon as the player advances to the Fortress Age by choosing San Luis Potosí, 500 coin appears at the Home City shipment point and the following Home City Cards will be added into the Mexican player's deck:
Card | Description |
---|---|
Bustamante | Field Hospitals cost no wood and grant no XP bounty; the General can build Field Hospitals; musket infantry get +10% hit points; Soldados/Regulars/Cruzob Infantry can be trained at Field Hospitals |
San Luis Patriots | Ships 1 Chinaco for every Home City shipment before this one (up to 8); Chinaco train time -10% |
Strategy[]
Picking San Luis Potosí allows the Mexicans flexibility on the battlefield. Its two federal cards can give an army composition of Soldados and Chinacos. San Luis Potosí also gives 500 coin that can be invested in more Soldados or Chinacos, or in their respective veteran upgrades.
The Bustamante federal card lets the player create Field Hospitals with the General for free, which can heal units and train Surgeons. For the Mexicans, these also serve in part as a substitute for Barracks, as Soldados can be trained there. Also, all Musket infantry are improved, which includes not only Soldados, but also Outlaw and Mercenary units that are Musket infantry (like the Desperado) and units the Mexicans may get through revolutions (such as Revolutionaries, Cruzob Infantry and Regulars). If the player revolts into Texas or Maya, the Field Hospitals will train Regular or Cruzob Infantry, respectively, instead of Soldados.
If the player is interested in improving cavalry, San Luis Potosí also offers San Luis Patriots, which not only gives Chinacos per shipment sent before it, but also improves their training time, enabling the player to easily mass this unit. It is recommended that the player ships at least 6 or 7 shipments before in order to get a good army of Chinacos.
San Luis Potosí is also a great pick if the player intends to revolt with Rio Grande, as both Federal Cards are synergic with that revolution.
If the player decides to just age up, almost all Industrial Age Federal States are good follow-ups, the only exception being Tamaulipas. Chihuahua and Zacatecas, both federal states, ship Chinacos, while Guerrero and Guanajuato ship Soldados. Guerrero is probably the best pick, as they also provide the Independence Hero shipment, which allows a second General that can build Field Hospitals with Bustamante. Among Imperial Age Federal States, the best picks after choosing San Luis Potosí are Estado de México, as both of its Federal Cards are synergic with San Luis Potosí, or Puebla, as they get the Cinco the Mayo federal card.
