| —In-game description | ||
The Ryokan is an economic landmark in Age of Empires IV: Dynasties of the East, available to the Sengoku Daimyo in the Dark Age, which advances them to the Feudal Age. It increases population by +60, and grants a permanent out of combat healing buff to any unit that enters its aura.
Abilities and influences[]
Ryokan Healing: (Passive) All allied units that walk within the Ryokan's 8.5-tile radius aura gain a permanent regeneration ability that allows them to heal 3 hit points every 5 seconds while out of combat. Units do not have to rest near the Ryokan to heal up (as they would with other healing abilities such as that from the Abbey of Kings or Kurultai). They just need to have walked past it once, and then they can heal anywhere (as long as they're out of combat).
Tactics[]
The nature of the ability changes the strategic calculus behind positioning the building compared to other similar buildings. Rather than being useful near the frontline, like the Kurultai, this building should be built near unit production buildings so that units get the buff immediately when they are trained or as they are walking their way to the battlefield.

Trivia[]
- The Ryokan is likely a general reference to the traditional Japanese inns of the same name, rather than a reference to any particular historical site.
- The building is noted to have an onsen, which are hot baths found in many Japanese inns and hotels that utilize water from hot springs. According to Japanese tradition, it was stated that the water from onsen were sacred with healing properties, hence the landmark's effect.
