Tactics[]
The Ronin is comparable to a standard Man-at-Arms, with slightly less hit points and armor, but greater damage in the Imperial Age. However, they have significantly greater speed, making them a much better unit at raiding. Their ability to be trained instantly once available makes them flexible and useful to quickly recover from losses or gain a numeric or strategic advantage in army composition over an opponent. This can be especially true for the Malians, which lack Men-at-Arms and typically have good gold income, or for other civilizations with no bonuses to their Men-at-Arms that may prefer fighting with a different composition and do not often build Barracks, such as the French.
Further statistics[]
In general, the Ronin benefits from any technology or ability that targets and improves infantry or melee infantry. It does not get affected by anything specifically targeting the Man-at-Arms or other unique heavy infantry, such as Honed Blades or Two-Handed Weapons. Since the unit is hired through an ability rather than trained directly for a cost, it doesn't benefit from any cost or training time upgrades. Furthermore, it cannot gain any abilities, whether active or passive, meaning that it does not get affected by Siege Engineers or Sultan's Mamluks.
