Roland is a cavalry hero available in the Scenario Editor in Age of Empires II. He is based on the Frankish military leader with the same name under the reign of Charlemagne.
In-game, he is represented by a Knight. Like other cavalry, Roland is affected by all technologies that affect cavalry as well as any other bonuses that affect them. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health.

- The Dragon Spreads His Wings: In the Definitive Edition version, all Wallachian Voivods are renamed Rolands, requesting Vlad's assistance with their personal matters in exchange for their support.
Historical Battles[]
- Honfoglalás: In the HD Edition version, Tas is one of the tribal chieftains of the Magyars in the principality of Etelköz and is a renamed Roland, swearing allegiance to Álmos.
Tamar[]
- Tamar the Builder: Tamar's nephew Alexios is a renamed Roland. He asks Tamar to reclaim Trebizond in exchange for his support in Tamar's campaigns against the Rum Sultanate.
