Richard de Clare is a cavalry hero found in the Scenario Editor in Age of Empires II HD: The African Kingdoms. He is based on the eponymous Welsh-Norman lord, notable for his leading role in the Norman invasion of Ireland.
In-game, he has the appearance of a Light Cavalry. Like other cavalry units, Richard de Clare is affected by all technologies that affect cavalry as well as any other bonuses that affect them. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health. Apart from hit points, his statistics are very low for a hero unit. He has no armor, which is very rare for a cavalry unit, let alone a cavalry hero.

- Cyprus: In the Definitive Edition version. Richard de Camville is a renamed Richard de Clare. He leads an English force to the east of Limassol that was separated from the main English army due to a thunderstorm. His forces will rejoin Richard's army upon being discovered.
Victors and Vanquished[]
- Komnenos: The Eunuch advisor is a renamed Richard de Clare. He will join Alexios after the latter is tasked with gathering an army, and will advise Alexios on overthrowing the emperor, and later on governing the Byzantine Empire. If moderately injured, he will retreat from the battlefield.
- Stephen: Richard de Clare leads the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland, attempting to break the Irish resistance by killing the High King of Ireland.
