Rheas are tall, flightless birds that live in South America. They resemble ostriches, but lack the ostriches' full tail plumage. Rheas have grayish brown feathers and white underbellies. When mating, male rheas assemble a flock of females and then construct and incubate a nest that can contain dozens of eggs. After the eggs are hatched the male cares for the hatchlings until they are able to defend themselves. As adults, rheas have few predators other than man.
