This article is about the cut technology in Age of Empires II: Forgotten Empires. For the technology in Age of Empires III, see Revetment. |
Revetments was a technology introduced in Age of Empires II: Forgotten Empires, and planned for the Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten. It was cut, but is still available behind the scenes not available to research anywhere. It is unobtainable via normal means while also having negligible cost and research time, and no icon. It can be researched in custom scenarios via triggers.
Strategy[]
It upgrades Palisade Walls to Fortified Palisade Walls, which are usually only seen in campaigns and available in the Scenario Editor. It also doubles the hit points of Palisade Gates (changing only statistics; name and graphics remain unchanged), i.e. for a generic civilization, in the Dark Age their hit points increase from 240 to 480, and in the Feudal Age from 400 to 800. Bonuses such as Byzantine civilization bonus or Cuman team bonus are also included multiplicatively, i.e. Byzantine Palisade Gates in the Imperial Age with this technology researched (via triggers) have 1,120 hit points.
Trivia[]
- In the Advanced Genie Editor, the technology has id 525 in the Techs tab, and its effect with the same name has id 580 in the Effects tab.
- There is a technology with a similar name Revetment in Age of Empires III.
- In the context of defense, Revetments refer to logs, stone slabs, bricks, etc, stacked in a sloping manner on the base of vertical walls, mounds, and cliffs to provide additional support to them, increasing their durability against erosion and collapse by distributing horizontal forces through the revetments into the ground. Unlike buttresses which are taller and lie perpendicular to the wall, revetments are shorter and continuously run along the contour of the structure.
