While Harumoto sails west, Yasuko and Sōjōbō follow Magumo's trail straight to her lair. Will they finally rescue Tatsuro?
—Scenario description

Reunion is the eighth scenario of the Yasuko's Tale campaign in Age of Mythology: Retold - Heavenly Spear.

Objectives[]

Navigate the Forest
  • Follow the path towards Magumo's lair. (Magumo's lair is close, but the path is guarded by foreign soldiers she has bewitched. Keep an eye out for anyone you can rescue from her clutches.)
  • Bring Harumoto and his men to Yasuko's Town Center. (Harumoto has arrived at the forest and needs to link up with Yasuko. Follow the path and watch out for enemy soldiers.)
  • (Optional) Rescue the captive Atlanteans and Norsemen. (Atlantean and Norse soldiers from distant lands have had the misfortune of being caught in Magumo's webs. Those she has not bewitched can be rescued by defeating the nearby guards.)
Defeat Magumo
  • Find and defeat Magumo. (Magumo's lair lies directly north of your base. Build up your forces, fight your way inside, and corner Magumo herself. Be ready to defend your flanks from Atlantean and Norse attacks.)
  • (Optional) Defeat Magumo's Atlantean and Norse minions. (Magumo's minions have established bases in the far west and east. Defeating them will allow you to fully focus on attacking Magumo.)

Spotlight[]

Magumo is a powerful and malevolent ancient entity, feared for her manipulative dark magic.

She has the terrifying ability to ensare her enemies' minds, turning them into loyal thralls. Those who fall under this spell lose all sense of self and fight for her cause without question.

Magumo is also known for her eerie web-weaving powers. She traps her victims in magical webs, keeping them helplessly suspended. Her lair is filled with captives still hoping to be rescued — so approach with caution.

Players[]

Player[]

Enemy[]

  • Magumo ( Susanoo): Owns a large, heavily fortified base on the northern end of the map, as well as various towers scattered throughout the map. After Harumoto and Yasuko reunite, Magumo herself will appear at the northernmost end of the forest, guarded by a Castle. She also has a local god power shield that prevents god powers from being used near her.
  • Bewitched Atlanteans ( Oranos): Holds a fortified base on the western side of the map. They will send Atlantean soldiers and myth units after the player as soon as any of the player's units attack or are spotted by the Oracle Heroes.
  • Bewitched Norse ( Thor): Holds a fortified base on the eastern side of the map, as well as a Dock on the southern end.
  • Magumo ( Susanoo): Consists of various Japanese, Norse, and Atlantean military and myth units that have been brainwashed to serve under Magumo's control. They hold groups of Atlantean and Norse heroes captive, trapped in spider webs that will break once their captors have been eliminated.

Strategy[]

Take it slowly with the first part of the scenario, using Yasuko and the Valkyries to heal the units before each fight. Find as many of the prisoners as possible with Yasuko's group and head to the first objective, where the player will then switch to Harumoto. Harumoto's group should avoid fighting as much as possible, since he has no healer, and should instead look to link up with Yasuko. Along the way, there is a Fafnir that should be slain to gain 300 gold. Once their forces are united, the player will get a base, but the player will then be subjected to attacks from Magumo, the Atlanteans, and the Norse. The prisoners consist of Turma and Destroyer Heroes, as well as Hersirs and Godis. While the Hersirs and Godis can construct buildings, they can only construct generic buildings available to the Japanese, namely Town Centers, Houses, towers, and walls.

Start by building some Docks to get a fishing economy going and build Shrines in the forest area that Yasuko went through, as those will be well-protected. The player will then want to focus on taking out the Atlanteans and Norse, but make sure the player's base is sufficiently defended against attacks from the others. Once the player has dealt with the other two, the player can shift the focus to Magumo, who has a strong base that will require a large army to defeat. The player won't be able to take her out using any god powers, as she has a dead zone for them around her. The Turma and Destroyer Heroes obtainable from the first optional objective are just like the trainable Japanese heroes in that they do not gain stat bonuses with each Age-up, so keeping them alive for as long as possible is recommended. The Destroyers and Hersirs will benefit from the infantry-boosting myth technologies granted by Ame-no-Uzume and Takemikazuchi, assuming the player picks the latter minor god for the Mythic Age.

Trivia[]

  • Sōjōbō saying, "The way these foreigners fight is almost as quaint as their strange tongues! 'Hairjoes'? 'Burek' 'Something'? Surely these cannot be real words!" is a possible reference to the Atlantean language being completely made up for the game.
