This article is about the native warrior in Age of Empires III. For the related Inca unit in the Definitive Edition, see Bolas Warrior.

Quechua ranged infantry that hurls bolas for a wide area of effect.
—In-game description

The Quechua Bolas Warrior (Incan Bolas Warrior before update update 47581) is a ranged infantry native warrior in Age of Empires III that can be trained at a Trading Post built on a Quechua settlement.

A visually similar Bolas Warrior is available to the playable Incas in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. However, their stats are different, with the latter being more comparable to a Dragoon or Aztec Eagle Runner Knight than his native warrior counterpart.

Overview[]

The Bolas Warriors, as well as the Huaminca, can't be trained in large numbers, however they are one of the only ranged infantry units to possess splash damage. This can quickly kill their favored enemies if the opponent does not activate stagger mode on the units.

The Bolas Warriors and Huamincas can form a deadly combination as they belong to different types of infantry, but they are vulnerable to artillery.

History[]

The standing army of the Inca was formed primarily by nobles, but the emperor could raise an army of able-bodied men from the general populace at will. Military discipline was strictly enforced when the troops were on the march and at the range of their various projectile weapons. Once they had loosed their missiles they closed in hand-to-hand fighting. The Inca used a wide variety of weapons: wooden sword-shaped clubs, star-headed maces, slings, spears, a sophisticated halberd, and bolas. They wore cotton armor that breathed well, allowed for free movement, and dissipated the force of blows. Bola are a relatively short-ranged weapon consisting of a pair of weights, stone or metal, joined by a chain or rope that entangles itself around the limbs of a target, injuring as it wraps tightly to hamper movement.
