The Poenari Castle is an unconstructable defensive structure in Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten. It acts like Castle, but slightly differs by having higher hit points and attack, a greater garrison capacity and population space (both 30), and a higher maximum number of projectiles (25 instead of 21).
It is only available in the Scenario Editor.

Vlad Dracula[]
- The Moon Rises: In the HD Edition version of the scenario, Poenari Castle is located in the northern corner, and it is where Dracula makes his final stand before escaping towards Hungary. In the Definitive Edition version of the scenario, the western base contains Poenari Castle. Defending it is an objective in both versions.
- The Night Falls: Poenari Castle is located in the north corner, with a path behind northern Gold Mines leading to it.
Trivia[]
- Though its primary projectile is unaffected by Fletching and subsequent upgrades, its secondary projectiles, being identical to those of a Castle, do benefit from these technologies.
- The shield above the main keep depicts the coat of arms of the House of Drฤculeศti.
- Although the structure is significantly overhauled in the Definitive Edition, no longer reusing textures from other buildings, it looks much more like Bran Castle, which is often associated with the myth of Count Dracula (the latter taking its name from Vlad Dracula).
