Shennong: Regenerates 4.5/6.0 hit points per second on Favored Land in the Heroic/Mythic Age
The Pixiu is unique in that it is a myth unit used for economic purposes rather than for combat or scouting. It offers slightly more gold than regular Caravans when trading, but it is also notably more expensive. With the Silk Road technology, Pixius can move faster over Favored Land and grant some resources to allies they trade with. Rushou's Autumn of Abundance technology also allows Pixius to generate food and wood in addition to gold, providing the player an economic advantage.
On the other hand, the Pixiu is prone to being raided like with any other trade unit. Being a myth unit, it is also doubly vulnerable to heroes and other myth units. However, this is partially offset for Shennong players, thanks to his regeneration bonus on Favored Land, and extending Favored Land over the length of the trade route should be prioritized in any case to gain the full benefit of the Silk Road technology. The Mythic Age god Zhurong grants Flaming Blood which adds to the defensive capability of Pixiu, as any melee raider units attacking a Pixiu also receives damage over time due to proximity to it.
Like regular Caravans, Pixius are used to trade between the Market and a selected friendly Town Center (but not Village Centers).
The Town Center 'gives' gold to the Pixiu, which is added to the player's stockpile when the Pixiu returns to the Market. The amount of gold generated by a single run of a Pixiu is approximately proportional to the square of the distance between the Market and the Town Center, at a rate of 0.875gold per tile (1.094 per second). Therefore, the total gold production rate over time of a straight-line trade route is directly proportional to its length. If Autumn of Abundance is researched, Pixius also generate food and wood at a rate of 0.175 per tile (0.219 per second).
Although it is possible for players to trade with their own Town Centers, trading with that of an ally will provide +10% gold.
Pixiu is a famous, auspicious, winged mythical creature in Chinese culture. It is widely believed that Pixiu can attract wealth and bring prosperity, helping people become wealthy.
