—In-game description |
Pestilence is a Greek Classical Age god power in Age of Mythology that is available to worshipers of Ares. When invoked, it causes military buildings in the targeted area to increase the time taken to produce units by 100%. However, technologies can still be researched and civilian units can still be trained at normal speeds. It does not affect Town Centers, Village Centers, and Sentinels in any way whatsoever.
It also prevents Fortress-type buildings (with the exceptions as mentioned above) and towers from attacking since Retold.
Effect[]
For 60 seconds, Pestilence affects all enemy production buildings and defenses (except the Town Center, Village Center, Citadel Center, and Sentinel) in an area of 50, preventing them from shooting arrows and increasing the time to take train units by 100% (resulting in 50% fewer units in the same amount of time). It also grants Line of Sight in the target area for the same duration.
For 50 seconds, Pestilence affects all enemy production buildings (except the Town Center and Citadel Center) in an area of 30, completely disabling their ability to train units. Also grants Line of Sight in target area for the same duration.

Hekate's Torches: -10% recharge cooldown and recast favor cost.
Strategy[]
Pestilence is best used when attacking an enemy town. Once most of the enemy soldiers are killed, Pestilence should be invoked to ensure that the enemy cannot train units to replenish their army, leaving their town defenseless. It is most effective when used in an area filled with military buildings such as Barracks, Archery Ranges, etc.
The best way to counter Pestilence is for players to spread out their buildings as much as possible so that some of them can continue producing units. As of Retold, it is also effective at disabling towers so units can dispose of them safely. Once an enemy invokes Pestilence, players need to use other means to counter any attacking enemy, such as god powers. Set Pharaohs can summon Animals of Set and Egyptians in general can still recruit Mercenary units at normal speeds.
