โ | Chinese Peasants gather resources and construct buildings. | โ |
—In-game description |
The Peasant is one of the Chinese worker unit in Age of Mythology: Retold - Immortal Pillars, the other being the Kuafu. It is the equivalent to the workers of other civilizations, but is less efficient.
The total worker limit is 100, regardless of the population cap status, with Peasants counting as 1 and Kuafus counting as 3 towards the limit.
Tasks[]
Peasants are usually used to gather resources to fund the player's many technological upgrades and unit creation in addition to building and repairing structures.
Peasants gather all resources 20% slower than Norse Gatherers and Greek Villagers and 10% slower than Egyptian Laborers. Furthermore, they are considerably slower than other workers (15% slower than Greek Villagers) at constructing most buildings (except Farms). Players must therefore rely on Kuafus, the other Chinese worker unit, to help build up their civilizations and to support their economy, particularly in wood and gold collection.
Gathering rates[]
Peasants gather resources from different sources at different speeds. The table below shows all gathering rates in descending order.

History[]
โ | Farming and laboring peasants formed the vast majority of ancient China's population. According to legend, Shennong, the divine farmer, first taught them how to till the soil, setting Chinese peasants apart from the 'barbarians' in surrounding regions. Early Chinese villages clustered in the highlands near the Yellow and Wei Rivers, where the imperial bureaucracy worked to keep farmers informed about the latest agricultural techniques and technologies, ensuring their productivity kept pace with rapid population growth. However, these villages were vulnerable to natural disasters like droughts and river floods, and farmers were often conscripted for large-scale projects to build or improve irrigation canals and dams. |
