| “ | Puru unique Heavy Archer that deals additional damage to units at point-blank range. | ” |
| —In-game description | ||
The Pattiyodha Longbowman is a Classical Age foot archer unit in Chronicles: Alexander the Great available at the Fort to the Puru. It can be upgraded to the Elite Pattiyodha Longbowman in the Imperial Age.
Ability[]
The Pattiyodha Longbowman gains +3 (increased by +1 each with the Elite upgrade and Leaf-Headed Shafts) attack when any enemy unit, not necessarily a military unit, is within 3 tiles. This increased attack can be used to attack enemies outside the 3 tile aura range.
Tactics[]
| This section is most likely incomplete and may need expansion. You can help by adding to it. |
Unlike standard foot archers, Pattiyodha Longbowmen excel in close quarters due to the increased attack they gain when enemy units are within three tiles of their positions, and when upgraded to Elite, they gain additional melee armor. However, their shorter range and poor accuracy (the latter of which is compounded due to lacking Thumb Ring) compared to other archers leaves them vulnerable to return fire. Their attack bonus against elephants can prove useful in mirror matches.

Alexander's Longbowman[]
Alexander's Longbowman is a special version of the unit available in the Alexander the Great campaign in Chronicles: Alexander the Great. It can be trained at the Macedonian Command Post if chosen over Alexander's Sannāhya in No Escape. Its attributes are identical to those of the Pattiyodha Longbowman, except for its longer training time of 23 seconds. It is hidden in the Scenario Editor.
It receives the Elite Pattiyodha Longbowman upgrade automatically for free when advancing to the Imperial Age.
Trivia[]
- The Pattiyodha Longbowman's name appears to be inspired by the namesake unit from the Europa Barbarorum mod for Rome: Total War.
- Patti means "footman" and yodha means "warrior, soldier" in Sanskrit; as such the unit's name can be translated as "foot archer".[1]
- Despite being named "longbowman", its range is less than its Bowman line counterparts ironically.
