“ | Can be built into existing Walls. You and your allies can manually open and close this Gate. | ” |
—Age of Empires II description |
The Palisade Gate is a defensive structure in Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten. It can be built on existing Palisade Walls to have an opportunity to let friendly units through while keeping enemies out. They can also be built into Stone Walls but that may be undesirable due to the Gates being significantly more fragile than the Stone Walls.
Palisade Gates open automatically if a friendly unit approaches them to let them through and will only close again if no unit stands right under the Gate. If the player's own units cause the Gate to open, enemy units can also pass or keep the Gate open on purpose. To prevent that, Palisade Gates can be locked so that they will not open, even to friendly units. Since update 99311, they can also be locked while being built. They can be unlocked again at any time. If they are placed over a wall piece or wall foundation, they will still get constructed.
Due to their large size and low cost, they are commonly used for quickwalling.
Palisade Gates, like Town Centers, require more resources to repair than they need to be constructed. They require 45 wood to be fully repaired, one and half times their construction cost.
