This article is about the technology in Age of Empires II. For the technology in Age of Empires IV, see Paiks (Age of Empires IV). |
Paiks is a technology in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Dynasties of India that is unique to the Bengalis and available at the Castle once the Castle Age is reached. Once researched, it increases the attack speed of Rathas and Elephant units by 20%.
Strategy[]
With this technology researched, the Bengali Battle Elephant will compete with the Khmer one, and their Armored Elephant attacks twice as fast as generic rams. Despite lacking Thumb Ring, the Elephant Archer and Ratha still fire slightly faster with this technology. Combined with high resistance to conversion and anti-counter Armor, the Bengali Elephants and Ratha corps will be very fearsome.
It also affects War Elephants, despite them not being available to the Bengalis.

History[]
Paiks were commoners who worked for eastern Indian states between the 13th and 19th centuries as a form of labor tax. This work often took the form of military service and production, such as the fabrication of arrows. The etymology is uncertain but probably has a Southeast Asian origin (from the Tai-Kradai languages), as the practice was first documented among the Ahom people who moved into Assam from the east.
