The Padre is a healer hero in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition that is unique to the Mexicans. In standard random map games, the Mexican player will receive the Padre in the Commerce Age.

Overview[]

The Padre is a unique healer that performs the role of a second Explorer for the Mexicans once the player ages up to the Commerce Age. Like every other Explorer, it can build Trading Posts, claim treasures, and regenerate hit points, which increase with every Age up.

It has more hit points than other healer units and has an increased coin cost, but unlike other units, who simply die when their hit points reaches 0, the Padre will collapse. In this state, the player can either pay 175 coin at the Cathedral to retrain him (this will make him appear at this building) or help him back up on his feet with an allied unit or building; in order to rescue the Padre, he must have at least 100 hit points.

The Padre has a low base attack, which deals additional damage against Treasure guardians due to being classified a hero. Unlike other Explorers, it cannot build Town Centers, or Forts as the General can. Instead, it can build the Cathedral, the unique Mexican Church.

Special abilities[]

  • Pacify ability Pacify: The Padre pacifies the target treasure guardian and others in an area of 5 around it, reducing their speed by 75% and doubling their Rate of Fire for 20 seconds. With Guadalupanos, Pacify can be used on and affects enemy military units. 16 range, 60 seconds cooldown.
  • Cry of dolores ability Cry of dolores revolution ability Cry of dolores maya ability Cry of Dolores! (requires Cry of Dolores): For the next 20 seconds, friendly units in an area of 35 around the Padre (as well as Inspiring Flags and the Cathedral with the "Land of Hidalgo" Home City Card) restores 20 hit points every second. With the "Land of Hidalgo" Home City Card, the area and hit point restoration are doubled. 300 seconds cooldown.
  • Ability saber strike Saber Strike (automatically activated when attacking with a cooldown of 90 seconds, available in the Industrial Age): The Padre lands a powerful blow from his saber which does 8 hand damage (×4.0 vs. treasure guardians, ×0.25 vs. villagers) with an area of 3.

Upgrades[]

The Padre is automatically upgraded in every Age from the Commerce Age.

  • Colonial age up +50% hit points and attack
  • Fortress age up +100% hit points and attack
  • Industrial age up +150% hit points and attack, gets Saber Strike
  • Imperial age up +200% hit points and attack
