The Ox Caravan is a Caravan in Age of Mythology that the Norse use to trade between the Market and selected Town Center. Like all caravan units, the Ox Caravan travels back and forth between a player's Market and Town Center, or the Town Center of an ally, and generates gold for the player.
Strategy[edit | edit source]
Players should build the Market in a safe corner of the map from where the Oxen will travel to a Town Center of choice. The greater the distance of the trade route, the more gold will be generated. This is especially valuable later in the game when safe Gold Mines run out. Caravans can also trade with ally Town Centers and doing so generates 50% more Gold than usual. Caravans may replace Gatherers or Dwarfs if too many are found idle once gold runs out but they cannot defend themselves from attackers and must be protected from raids.
Upgrades[edit | edit source]
- Coinage: Increases the movement speed by 20%.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Much like the Camel Caravan, the Ox Caravan was also planned to have a wild counterpart called the Musk Ox (However unlike the Camel the Musk Ox was planned for The Titans).
- Originally, the Ox Caravan was intended to be a draft horse, according to its sound files (sound much more like a Horse than an Ox) and pre-release screenshots.
- The Ox Caravan also shares its death sounds with the Cow. However, these have unique file names, revealing that this change was fairly late into development.
