”
—In-game description
The Oni (鬼) is a myth unit in Age of Mythology: Retold - Heavenly Spear, available to the Japanese at the Temple once the Heroic Age is reached through Fūjin. It is a red-skinned, horned, and towering ogre-like demon, which wields a giant club and uses it to great effect against buildings. The Oni's berserk state increases its strength.
Rampage (Charged): Enter a state of berserking rage, increasing damage and attack speed, but becoming more vulnerable to attacks. (For 10 seconds, Oni receives +10% attack, -50% reload time (i.e. +100% attack speed), and +10% hack and pierce vulnerability. Recharge time: 20 seconds.)
Further statistics[]

Myth technologies[]
Specific[]
Deadly Rage: Upgrades Onis to Oni Warlords; Onis have +30% attack, -20% hack vulnerability.
Onis are giant ogre-like demons who wield spiked wooden clubs to crush enemy units and buildings, analogous to the NorseMountain Giant. However, whereas Mountain Giants can deliver a powerful strike against buildings or kick away enemy human units, Onis can enter a berserking rage where they deal extra damage and attack more quickly at the expense of becoming more vulnerable to damage. In groups, they can annihilate a Town Center and other defensive fortifications without taking too much damage in return. The Deadly Rage technology upgrades Onis to Oni Warlords, who deal even more damage and have higher resistance to hack damage. They can be further upgraded with the Oni Mask technology from Fūjin to increase their hit points and training speed, as well as Inari Ōkami's Ivory Netsuke technology to allow them to generate gold from half of the damage dealt to enemy units.
Onis are decent against human soldiers and other myth units, especially Rock Giants. However, like all other myth units, they are weak versus heroes. Their low movement speed also tends to make them a high-priority target of faster myth units like the Kamaitachi, Yazi, and Anubite, the latter two of which can close the distance and strike first with their special ability. Similarly, Onis should be protected from myth units like the Medusa, Frost Giant, and Lampades, as they can either temporarily put Onis out of action or even turn them against their allies. On the other hand, Onis have a lot of hit points to compensate for their average armor and slow movement.
When attacking an enemy base, the player must remember to manually cast the ability to increase the unit's damage output, as the ability is not auto-cast automatically by the Oni when targeting buildings.

Scientific name – Rubrum monstrum Size – 800 lbs Diet – human flesh and sake
Onis are gigantic, demonic, ogre-like beasts with red skin and horns. They are typically depicted wearing tiger-print loincloths, symbolizing their wild nature. In their clawed hands, Onis often wield a tetsubō – a heavy, spiked club – which they use to batter and punish sinners sent to hell.
Onis are not confined to hell; they are also believed to inhabit the earth. However, they can be banished from earth on the second day of the second month during Setsubun, a traditional Japanese festival. This day features a ritual called mamemaki, in which people throw beans to ward off Onis and bad luck.
