New York is an Imperial Age Federal State in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, available to the United States. Choosing New York to advance to the Imperial Age increases the hit points and attack of mercenaries and outlaws by 25% (except Industrial Age mercenaries, which increase by 17.5% instead), and adds the following Home City cards to the US player's deck:
- Purple: Shipment that can be sent an INFINITE number of times
Card | Description |
---|---|
New York Zouaves | Ships 10 Zouaves and 1 more every time this shipment is sent; Costs 1,500 coin |
Hamilton's Own | Ships 2 Li'l Bombards and 4 Napoleon Guns; Mercenaries get +25% hit points and attack; Costs 2,500 coin |
Strategy[]
New York is a straightforward Federal State that focuses on mercenaries and (to a lesser extent) outlaws. It is highly coin-intensive, but if the player has chosen a mercenary or outlaw tactic and has a Home City deck accordingly, New York is the way to go in the Imperial Age. Aging up with New York already improves all the player's mercenaries and outlaws by giving them more attack and hit points, and these stats will be improved again for mercenaries once the player sends Hamilton's Own.
Considering both of their federal cards require coin to be shipped, the player should pick a deck with Home City Cards that give coin crates or that improve coin gathering rates. The player should save coin for mercenaries and the New York Federal Cards. Many Federal States from previous ages already address coin (see Recommended shipments), but the best ones are Boston Tea Party from Massachusetts (deposits 350 coin and exchanges all current food for 25% more coin), and New Hampshire Manufacturing from New Hampshire (ships 1 Factory Wagon). It is worth mentioning that in the case of New Hampshire, the player will be able to train Napoleon Guns at the Saloon, which is a mercenary artillery, once they ship French Canadians; in most games, the player should use New Hampshire and New York in a combo when going full mercenaries.
New York Zouaves ships 10 Zouaves and 1 more each time this federal card is sent. Zouaves are mercenary ranged infantry with no multipliers that combine the attributes of heavy infantry and light infantry. They have a strong base attack, hit points, and high ranged resistance when compared to generic ranged infantry. They act as a soft counter against light cavalry and infantry units due to their superior statistics.
Recommended shipments[]
- Chests of coin shipments and New Jersey Seaports (New Jersey): Mercenaries and outlaws costs coin, so coin crates will be useful.
- United States Army: Heavy Infantry get +15% hit points and attack. Many mercenaries and Gunslingers are Heavy Infantry.
- Continental Rangers: Rifle Infantry get +15% hit points and attack. Owlhoots and many mercenaries are Rifle Infantry
- TEAM Alaska Purchase, Kentucky Coalfields (Kentucky), Oklahoma Black Mesa, Overmountain Settlers (Tennessee), California Gold Rush (California), Establish Ironmonger, and Silversmith: these cards either send prospector wagons that turn into mines, make mines last longer, or improve coin gather rates from mines. In the specific case of Oklahoma Black Mesa, it also enables Gunslingers, which are outlaws and are improved by aging up with New York, to gather coin from mines.
- Springfield Armory: The technologies enabled at the Arsenal will further improve all types of outlaws and mercenaries.
- Advanced Homesteading, Virginia General Assembly, Rum Distillery, Cigar Roller, Textile Mill, Stonemasons, Land Grab, Vermont Coppers (Vermont): The player may also get the coin from Estates, and all of these cards improve Estates or make them easier to build.
- Hamiltonian Economics: Hunting Dogs, Gang Saw, Placer Mines, Blunderbuss, Great Coat, Steel Traps, Log Flume, and Amalgamation are free and refund the cost of already researched ones. This saves coin while improving gathering rates.
- Advanced Saloon: Saloon build limit +2, supports 20 population, and available from the Exploration Age; Military Wagons can build Saloons. This makes it a lot easier to muster mercenaries and outlaws.
- Shotgun Messengers: Ships 4 Owlhoots and 4 Cowboys; Trading Posts get +12 Line of Sight and the Shotgun Messengers charged ability.
- Capitalism, Philadelphia Convention (Pennsylvania), New Hampshire Manufacturing (New Hampshire), Dutch Immigrants: Another way to get coin is by a trickle. These shipments enable coin trickles by themselves or by giving a technology or building that can do that. The United States have 2 Factory cards by default when they age up to the Industrial Age. Factories can generate coin. Philadelphia Convention enables Pennsylvania Pound at the Meeting House. While this technology activates a coin trickle, it should be used with caution, because this reduces coin gathering rates from other sources.
- Scottish Immigrants: Ships 1 Highlander for each Saloon, Meeting House, and Trading Post. The Highlanders are mercenaries, so are pretty synergic with New York.
- Reno Gang: Ships 7 Gunslingers, Cowboys, and/or Owlhoots (selected at random).
- Poker: Ships 13 random mercenaries; up to three random mercenaries available at the Saloon.
- Dance Hall: Upgrades the Saloon to the Dance Hall, which can train Ronin; outlaws use -2 population.
- Recruit Manilamen Fleet and Recruit Manilamen: Wokou Junks are mercenary ships, so the player may use them in naval maps when they have a mercenary deck and pick New York.
- Boston Tea Party (Massacusetts): Deposits 350 coin and exchanges all current food for 25% more coin.
- Tammany Festival (Pennsylvania): One of the technologies enabled is Cree Tanning, which benefits most outlaw and mercenary units.
- Fish Market, Rendering Plant, Whale Oil and Chesapeake Oyster Pirates (Maryland): If playing on a naval map, these four shipments improve coin gathering rates from Whales. In the case of Chesapeake Oyster Pirates, Steamers and Sloops will gather coin from fish. This is useful if the player wants mercenaries on a naval map.
- Indiana Mammoth Improvement Act (Indiana): Aging up to the Industrial Age and Imperial Age is free and costs -40%, respectively, but both take 4.5 times as long. Aging to the Industrial and Imperial Ages has a coin cost, so this helps to save coin for more mercenaries and outlaws.
- Indiana Mobilization (Indiana): Unit train time, technology research time, and age-up time -10%.
- French Canadians (New Hampshire): Ships 2 Napoleon Guns; Napoleon Gun available at the Saloon.
- TEAM Ohio Supply Network (Ohio): Trade Routes generate +100% resources. Players can set the trade route to generate coin instead of experience.
- Marion's Diversions (South Carolina): Artillery get +5% speed, including mercenary artillery such as Napoleon Guns and Li'l Bombards.
