Strategy[]
For players that need a naval build order or require constantly resource shipments, New Jersey is the best option for aging up to the Industrial Age. New Jersey also ships one Horse Artillery, which may be useful for an artillery-based strategy. It is also a versatile pick, as the resource shipments allowed a second time after New Jersey Seaports is sent can be used for any strategy.
New Jersey Seaports makes this federal state a great pick on naval maps, as ships require a lot of wood, and wood is the resource with the slowest gathering rate in Age of Empires III, so wood cords can be used for creating more ships. New Jersey is the perfect bridge between Maryland and Connecticut. It is also the best pick if the player wants a mercenary or outlaw strategy, as coin shipments can be invested in those units and mercenary shipments, so this Federal State may serve as a bridge between New Hampshire and New York. The effect of extra resource of this card also applies to the wood cords from Connecticut and Illinois when aging up.
On the other hand, New Jersey offers Morris Canal, which enables the player for a rapid expansion, as the 4 Infrastructure wagons allow the player to rapidly deploy some of the buildings they need, while at the same time, future shipments will also arrive faster.
Recommended shipments[]
- Any resource shipments
- Washington Lumber Mills: Ships 400 wood; Villagers gather wood from trees and Mango Groves 10% faster.
- Minneapolis Mills: Ships 800 food; Villagers gather food from Mills, Farms, Fields, and Rice Paddies 10% faster
- Knox Artillery Train: Upgrades Horse Artillery to Heavy Horse Guns (if not already); Horse Artillery and Heavy Cannons get +20% hit points; Horse Artillery train time -25%; Heavy Cannon train time -15%
- Advanced Artillery: Horse Artillery available from the Fortress Age
- Connecticut Shipwrights (Connecticut): Artillery train time -25%, buildings' build time -35%, and warships' train time -50%
- Indiana Mobilization (Indiana): All units and technologies, including Age advancements, train and research time -10%; costs 250 food, 250 wood.
- Watauga Association (Tennessee), Russian-American Company, Advanced Frontier Defenses, Chinese Immigrants, Arkansas Post, TEAM Westward Expedition, Frontier Defenses, Virginia General Assembly, Fort shipments, TEAM Louisiana Purchase, 1 Covered Wagon and Missouri River Expeditions: Considering Morris Canal, shipments like all of these allow the player to get more map control for a rapid expansion.
- Virginia Plan (Virginia): Gives 2 Home City shipments. This synergizes with Morris Canal.
- Plymouth Settlers (Massachusetts): This shipment gives 200 food, and also gives 3 Pilgrims per Town Center. New Jersey Seaports enables this twice, so it can be used for a recovery if an opponent raids the player's villagers, but they have enough Town Centers.
- Tammany Festival (Pennsylvania): One of the technologies it enables is Cree Textile Craftsmanship, which reduces building time, including for Infrastructure Wagons.
