—In-game description |
The Naval Shipyard is a building available in Age of Mythology in scenarios and the Scenario Editor. Much like the Shrine, it is only a decorative building but it had a larger purpose in the beta.
A Naval Shipyard appears in-game in the scenarios A Fine Plan, More Bandits, and Isis, Hear My Plea of the Fall of the Trident campaign.
Overview[]
The Naval Shipyard was intended to function as a Dock that only trained military ships and researched naval technologies, whilst the Dock would only function for economic uses, such as building trade boats, fishing ships, and transport ships. In the final game, all the functionality was implemented for Docks and Naval Shipyards turned into decorative buildings.

History[]
โ | This building produces ships of war. A dominant navy was very important to ancient people, as it allowed them to protect and patrol their coastlines and trade routes, but also to attack the coastlines and trade routes of other countries. The Norse went "Viking" to raid others for trade goods and gold -- it was the skill of their sailors and their sturdy, swift longboats that allowed them to do so for many centuries. | โ |

Trivia[]
- Due to being a Scenario-Editor-only and beta unit, the Naval Shipyard lacks Atlantean and Chinese equivalents, instead using the Egyptian model. They also lack distinct Mythic Age models, unlike normally constructable buildings.
- Since Retold, Naval Shipyards belonging to Atlantean players use the Greek model.
- Originally, a similar building was planned in Age of Empires II: a Dock that only trained military ships and researched navy technologies.
- The division between civilian Docks and military Shipyards would later be reintroduced in the Chronicles game mode in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
