| —In-game description | ||
The Naval Shipyard is an unconstructible building available in Age of Mythology in scenarios and the Scenario Editor.
Overview[]
Originally, the Naval Shipyard was intended to function as a Dock that only trained military ships and researched naval technologies, whilst the Dock would only function for economic uses, such as building trade boats, Fishing Ships, and Transport Ships. In the final release, all the functionality was implemented for Docks, and Naval Shipyards were turned into merely decorative buildings.
In Retold, they are still Scenario Editor buildings, but also gain the ability to train war ships and naval myth units, and research military naval technologies. Additionally, Fishing Ships and workers can drop off food at nearby Naval Shipyards. Unlike Docks, it cannot be garrisoned by Fishing Ships for safety, and cannot attack enemies.

History[]
| “ | This building produces warships. A dominant navy was crucial to ancient seafaring civilizations, as it allowed them to protect and patrol their own coastlines and trade routes, and also to threaten those of others. The Norse went 'viking' to raid others for trade goods and gold, and the skill of their sailors and their sturdy, swift longboats allowed them to do so for many centuries. | ” |

Trivia[]
- The Naval Shipyard lacks Atlantean and Chinese equivalents, instead using the Egyptian model. They also lack distinct Mythic Age models, unlike normally constructible buildings.
- Since Retold, Naval Shipyards belonging to Atlantean and Chinese players use the Greek model.
- Originally, a similar building was planned in Age of Empires II: a Dock that only trained military ships and researched navy technologies.
- The division between civilian Docks and military Shipyards would later be reintroduced in the Chronicles game mode in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
