Mythological technologies, usually abbreviated myth technologies, are special technologies in Age of Mythology. The availability of myth technologies that are at the player's disposal is - unlike the other technologies - dependent on the gods chosen. By extension, all of them are unique to their civilization.
Each major god provides one myth technology, generally available in the Archaic Age[note 1] (except Thor, who provides four technologies, and the Chinese pantheon, which provide two each), and each minor god provides two to four technologies in their respective Age.
Some myth technologies are researched at the Temple, other buildings include the Town Center, Armory, and Dock. Myth technologies cost favor to research, with the exceptions of Necropolis, Rheia's Gift, Perception, Gohei Wands, Dwarven Weapons, Meteoric Iron Armor, and Dragonscale Shields.
Some technologies, like Sky Fire or Hands of the Pharaoh, are unique to their civilization, but not to a particular god. These technologies are not classified as myth technologies, even if they cost favor. Likewise, universal technologies that cost favor (like Heroic Fleet) are not considered mythical. Since Retold, myth technologies are displayed in the user interface with a purple border, making them easier to distinguish.
Trivia[]
- The in-game technology tree in Retold does not list Thor's Dwarven Armory technologies in the summary section as myth technologies, where only Hammer of Thunder is shown.
- Heroic Fleet is also displayed with a purple border in the user interface, despite not being considered a myth technology.
