“ | Infantry effective at ambush attacks and countering heavy armored targets. | ” |
—Age of Empires IV description |
The Musofadi Warrior is a light melee infantry unit in Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition available to the Malians that can be trained at the Barracks. It is designed to counter heavy units and has a stealth ability. They are also available to the Byzantines as a mercenary unit.
Ability[]
- Stealth (active): Enter Stealth for 30 seconds. When in Stealth, units are invisible until they are revealed by enemy Scouts, Outposts, Capital Town Center or they engage in combat. Cooldown: 30 seconds.
- First Strike (passive, requires Fort of the Huntress): Deal 3x damage when breaking stealth with an attack. This ability works with either the Huntress Stealth ability or the standard Stealth ability, and the multiplier applies to both base damage and damage increases from upgrades.
Tactics[]
The Malians train Musofadi Warriors instead of Men-at-Arms. However, the roles of the two units are different. Men-at-Arms are generic infantry with toughness and reliability, while Musofadi Warriors are swift and stealthy, but somewhat fragile due to the lack of melee and pierce armor. They are effective at countering heavy units, but are susceptible to ranged attacks. Essentially, Musofadi Warriors work like melee Crossbowmen that trade much better vs Horsemen, but much worse vs Archers. They are also less vulnerable to Mangonels, taking no bonus damage and having the ability to close the distance and take them down with melee damage. Whenever possible, it is recommended to attack enemies with the stealth ability or use them in combination with Javelin Throwers or cavalry.
Musofadi Warriors can also make decent raiding units on forward economies, due to their ability to stealth and their higher speed than standard infantry. However, their lack of armor make them unable to raid under Town Center fire, especially since they cannot stealth in this situation.
Mansa Musofadi Warriors[]
Advancing to the Castle Age with the Farimba Garrison enables the player to upgrade their Musofadi to Mansa Musofadi Warriors. This increases their hit points by 15 across all upgrade levels and grants them melee armor. Functionally, this does not change their purpose, but makes them further counter heavy melee units, and perform better against light melee units, such as Horsemen and Spearmen.
