Musket infantry is a tag in Age of Empires III introduced in update 23511. Basically, musket infantry are Musketeer-type units. They are general heavy infantry all-around units, dealing good damage at moderate range and also good against cavalry in melee mode. In the game files, they are referred as AbstractMusketeer
. They are vulnerable to artillery, light infantry (foot archers and rifle infantry), and counter-skirmishers.

Trivia[]
- Haudenosaunee Tomahawks, Tomahawks, Bolas Warriors, Gascenyas, Desert Warriors, Somali Issa Warriors, Maya Holcan Javelineers, and Yoruba Oyo Legionaries are classified as musket infantry, but actually they do not wield a musket, they throw and swing axes, bolas and lances instead. The same occurs with the Armored Pistoleer, Cossack Daredevil (Dismounted), Dacoit, Pistolero, Desperado, Gunslinger, and the Highwayman (Dismounted), who are also tagged as musket infantry but who wield a pistol instead of a musket. This is due to balance purposes, so these units can benefit from technologies and Home City Cards that improve the attack and multipliers of these heavy infantry units against cavalry, to supply a lack of a civilization has of not having a ranged infantry unit good against cavalry in melee mode (which is the case of the Haudenosaunee with the Tomahawk, the Inca with the Bolas Warrior, and the Ethiopians with the Gascenya), or to better differentiate these units from their light infantry counterparts.
