Mountain Ridge is a random map in Age of Empires II: The Last Khans.
Description[]
This map features groves of trees peppered throughout, and the tiniest of ponds in which Shore Fish can be found. Relics are standard, as are the starting resources surrounding each player's base.
Across the center of the map are some rough, rugged hills upon which packs of mountain Goats lay claim. There's also a fair amount of stone and gold on these snowy hill,s as opposed to the valleys around the edges of the map, which really don't sport many mineral resources, aside from more trees.
Viable tactics[]
Right from the start, each player's focus will be on exploiting or controlling the mountain ridge in the center, and most, if not all, of the fighting will be held there from start to finish. The mountain goats of the big central hill will be valuable sources of food to start, but when they run out, there are still the gold and stone deposits on the hill present, meaning players will still be wrestling for control of the center of the map for the entire game.
Much of the advantage will go to civilizations that move the fastest right from the start โ the Aztecs, Berbers, and Mongols being some fine examples of those who will be among the first to make use of all of that food in the mountain ridge. Civilizations with good defenses, like the Byzantines or Britons, will prioritize capturing the hill by tower-rushing, and denying access by other players. Cavalry-raiding civilizations like the Mongols and Tatars will have speed to traverse the hills on their side, while archer civilizations like the Britons or Chinese can use the hills to their advantage for combat.
