This article is about the building in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors. For other uses, see Monument. |
The Monument is an unconstructable building in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors. Monuments have the same appearance as Wonders, but they cannot be attacked or destroyed.
Capturing[]
A Monument changes color when a unit of another player (allied, neutral, or enemy) approaches it and no units of the current player surround it. In order to capture a Monument, all units surrounding it must therefore be killed or chased away.
Usually, the timer for the new owner continues where it left off for its previous owner. However, when a player who is not allied to the current owner (not necessarily the other way round) captures a Monument and the timer is less than 100 years, it resets to 100 years.
Victory[]
A Monument is the key object in any King of the Hill match, as the player who is first able to conquer the Monument in the center of the map and successfully defends for 550 years wins the game.
Resource generation[]
The Monument gives a trickle of every resource (0.8/s or 48/min) i.e. 48 food, wood, gold, and stone per minute, so holding the Monument is important even early on.
Trivia[]
- Monuments appear in several scenarios in the campaigns, but don't normally serve any distinct purpose. The only scenarios where they behave as intended is in the few scenarios which have King-of-the-Hill-style objectives: the An Unlikely Alliance scenario of the Ivaylo campaign, the Desire scenario of the Devapala campaign, and in The Siege. Among these, only Desire is a true King of the Hill scenario, as An Unlikely Alliance actually uses a Wonder victory, and The Siege uses a separate timer-based trigger system.
- The Rock Church behaves in a similar way as a Monument.
