—Age of Empires IV description |
Mongolian Heights is a hybrid random map in Age of Empires IV. A river containing shore fish divides the map into two sections punctuated by several cliffs and featuring an abundance of Sheep.
Features[]
On this map, each team starts on opposite sides of a central river bisecting the map, either from the northeast to the southwest or from the northwest to the southeast edges. The river always has five shallow crossing points. Varying numbers of cliffs and elevation changes spawn in random locations on each side. All map features are evenly divided between each side of the river, with one Sacred Site and Trade Post per side, close to the river. The Sacred Site is closer to the center of the map, while the Trade Post is closer to the edge of the map. This map features one extra Relic compared to most maps, with an equal number located on each side.
Resources[]
The central river provides a valuable source of Shore Fish and encourages naval skirmishes from the get-go. Additionally, this map features significantly more Sheep than normal, with most spawning close to the river. Other than this in terms of food, the standard number of Deer packs and Berry Bushes spawn, but team game map sizes have fewer Boars than usual, with only 4 vs 4 containing more than 2. Like the Sheep, the Boars also spawn close to the river. Wood is scattered relatively evenly on both sides of the map, though sometimes in more irregular shapes. The same is true of gold and stone, of which there are more than usual large mines and outcroppings on team game map sizes. The total amount of resources will most often be divided evenly between both sides of the river to be as fair as possible, but it is not uncommon for a Deer Pack, Boar, gold mine, or stone outcropping (whether large or small) that 'belongs' to one side to spawn on the other, resulting in one side of the river having more resources.
Trivia[]
- Although the description claims that this map is a spiritual successor to Mongolia, it resembles the Age of Empires II version of Highland much more, with a river with shallow crossings cutting the map in half.
