—Map description |
Mirkwood is a random map introduced in Age of Mythology: Retold. It is a semi-closed land map with with an open passage between players and a dense forest surrounding them.
The name mirkwood is usually used to refer to generic dark bewitched forests of ancient Europe in literature and folklore.
Overview[]

The choke-points created by the forests in the already narrow passage can allow ranged units and powerful area of effect god powers to reign supreme. Rushing players have to rush even earlier due to ease of walling in this map.
Major gods that perform well on this map are those with strong defensive advantages, such as Gaia, Nรผwa, Hades, Isis, and Freyr. Likewise, Ra and Isis grant access to Rocs (available through Sobek) that can fly over the forests and drop off troops closer to either an enemy's base to attack or an ally's base to defend it.
