History[]
Miltiades was an Athenian statesman and general best known for his role at the Battle of Marathon. Previously, he had been tyrant of the semi-autonomous colony of Chersonesos (modern-day Gallipoli, Turkey), and was briefly a vassal of the Persian emperor Darius before taking part in the Ionian Revolt against Persian rule. He was one of the ten strategoi ('generals') leading the Athenian forces at Marathon in 490 BC, although the rank of "polemarch" (or 'war leader') was held by Callimachus, despite Miltiades being presented as the chief officer in Chronicles. Following the celebrated victory at Marathon, Miltiades fell out of favor after a failed expedition against Paros in 489 BC. He died in prison, likely of gangrene from a wound he sustained during the expedition.
Trivia[]
- He is also listed as a leader name for the Athenians.
- Despite being a hero, he does not have the hero armor class.
