| “ | Priestess that can build Shrines and work at them to earn Favor. Heals allies. | ” |
| —In-game description | ||
The Miko (巫女) is a melee hero available to the Japanese in Age of Mythology: Retold - Heavenly Spear. At the start of the game, one Miko is spawned from the player's starting Town Center. Additional ones can be trained in the Archaic Age from the Town Center. She can build Shrines, which she can then work at to generate favor. She can also heal friendly units, as well as construct and repair Temples.
Though she does not start with the ability to pick up Relics, she can do so after Sacred Custodians has been researched.
Special ability[]
Sacred Hands (Passive, requires Sacred Custodians): Can pick up Relics and deposit them at a Temple.
Heal (Active, automatic): Heal an injured allied unit.
Kagura (Active): Target a shrine to perform a sacred dance which generates Favor. Nearby natural resources increase the Favor rate. (Works at Shrines to gather favor. See details on the Shrine page.)- Construct and repair Shrines and Temples

Tactics[]
Miko's Kagura dance (double-click to enlarge)
As she is a starting unit, players can use her to scout the surrounding area to find the most suitable resource-rich location and set up Shrines. Although she has a high damage multiplier against myth units, her low base hit points mean that she is not very effective against even most Classical Age myth units individually. As such, she is better suited as a support unit, healing the player's frontline troops when necessary, although her vital role in favor production means that she is best kept tasked at Shrines whenever possible.

History[]
| “ | A miko is a female shaman in the Shinto religion. In earlier periods, mikos were believed to serve as vessels through which the kami could communicate – the spirit of a kami could possess the miko and deliver oracles or prophecies through her. Miko either served as shamans at shrines, conducting sacred rites, or traveled from shrine to shrine, demonstrating their magical and religious powers through fortune-telling. In modern times, mikos typically work at Shinto shrines, where they perform sacred cleansings and a ritual dance known as kagura. | ” |
