Mathematics was supposed to be a technology in Age of Empires that would have been researched at the Government Center once Iron Age was reached. It was usable in the 00.05.01.0204 alpha, but was cut from the release build.
Once researched, it would have increased the range of archers, ballistas, catapults, and heavy catapults by 50%.
History[]
โ | The science of mathematics evolved from the need to count and measure. Merchants, farmers, and tax assessors all needed to count items in inventory. Merchants and builders needed standards of weight and measurement. The Babylonians first used the number 60 as a unit of measurement. They divided a circle into 360 degrees and an hour into 60 minutes. When the Egyptians built the pyramids, each stone block required precise measurement so that the thousands of blocks that made up the structures fit together properly. Ancient advances in mathematics were primarily the result of practical experimentation until the Greek philosophers began studying certain phenomena for the pleasure of enlightenment. The philosophic approach led to new practical applications of mathematics, especially in the area of geometry and engineering. | โ |
