Manipur Cavalry is a technology in Age of Empires II HD: Rise of the Rajas that is unique to the Burmese and can be researched at the Castle. Once researched, it gives cavalry units +4 attack vs archers.
Strategy[]
As the Burmese lack good options to counter archer and cavalry archer civilizations (except Mangonels, Scorpions, and their own Crossbowmen, all three options supported by the free Lumber Camp upgrades) due to their lackluster Skirmishers, this technology can now offset that Castle Age onward. Burmese Stable units became powerful against all sort of Archery Range units; for instance, a fully upgraded Burmese Hussar can kill Arbalesters in one less hit.
With this technology researched, Cavaliers work greatly as cannon fodder for Arambai, being able to kill Arbalesters in one less hit, and Elite Battle Elephants become even more dangerous if large groups of Arbalesters are cornered, especially considering that fully upgraded Burmese ones have 9 pierce armor.
However, most archer civilizations can also deploy Halberdiers to deal with cavalry, so bringing infantry or Arambai to deal with Halberdiers is necessary.
Team bonuses[]
- Portuguese: Researching Manipur Cavalry is 25% faster.
Changelog[]
Rise of the Rajas[]
- Initially, Manipur Cavalry gives cavalry units and Arambai +6 attack against buildings and is the Imperial Age unique technology. With patch 5.2, the bonus is spread over the two building classes (building and standard building) equally so Architecture does not cancel the effect completely anymore. Half of the effect can still be denied by researching Masonry.
- Manipur Cavalry costs 650 food, 400 gold.
Definitive Edition[]
- With update 37650, Manipur Cavalry gives +6 attack against standard buildings and no damage against buildings, so it does not get partially negated by Masonry.
Dawn of the Dukes[]
- With update 56005, Manipur Cavalry gives cavalry units +5 attack against archers and no longer affects Arambai.
Dynasties of India[]
- With update 61321, Manipur Cavalry costs 400 food, 400 gold.
Return of Rome[]
- With update 87863, Manipur Cavalry cost reduced from 400 food, 400 gold to 300 food, 300 gold and effect reduced from cavalry deal +5 bonus attack vs. archers to cavalry deal +4 bonus attack vs. archers. Manipur Cavalry moved to the Castle Age.
History[]
The Kingdom of Manipur (also known as Kingdom of Kangleipak) was often enemies with the Burmese Toungoo Empire, having had to stave off multiple Burmese invasions. It was not until much later, during the 17th-18th centuries long after Bayinnaung's death, that Manipur Cavalry served in the Burmese cavalry. Furthermore, the Burmese Manipuris fought primarily as lancers. However, the traditional primary arm for the Burmese cavalry was a short javelin that was used similarly to the Arambai.
Trivia[]
- Manipur Cavalry is supposed to affect all cavalry units, including unique units. However, since some units do not have a defined 0 attack, it does not affect the Camel Rider, Armored Elephant, Magyar Huszar, Steppe Lancer, and Mameluke lines.
