Malians have their own challenge scenario in Art of War in Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition.
Intro[]
Scenario description/loading screen[]
Make use of the unique Malian infantry to ambush waves of enemy raiders and defend your open pit mines.
Video instruction[]
The agility and stealth of Malian infantry make them well suited for ambushes and hit-and-run tactics. Some units fill combat roles unavailable to other civilizations.
Musofadi Warriors are the Malian equivalent of Men-at-Arms. They lack defensive bonuses but deal extra damage to heavy units, making them an effective counter to heavily armored foes. A technology unique to the Malians allows Musofadi units to heal when in stealth. Use this to your advantage.
Malian Donso units are similar to the Spearmen employed by other civilizations, however, Donso have the ability to carry out a single ranged attack when entering combat.
Javelin Throwers are specialized anti-ranged infantry which excel at fighting archers and other ranged units. The Poisoned Arrows upgrade on the Malian Archers deals damage to targets over time, even after the Archers have retreated from battle.
Malian Open Pit Mines provide a steady income of Gold, which is increased by each house in the mine's area of influence. Defend the forest paths and divide your forces to ambush each wave of enemies before they can destroy your Open Pit Mines.
Start of scenario[]
In this mission, you can spend Gold to purchase additional units using the Reinforcement Panel. You will need to counter ranged and armored units in the first wave.
