This article is about the technology in Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten. For the building in Age of Empires IV, see Madrasa. |
Madrasah was a technology in Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten that was unique to the Saracens and can be researched at the Castle. Once researched, it allowed 33% of a Monk's gold cost to be returned to the player's stockpile if the Monk gets killed.
It was removed and replaced by Counterweights in update 61321.
Strategy[]
The Saracens have access to the full Monastery technology tree, so they have excellent Monks. Madrasah furthers the Monk support since it allows the player to secure some of the gold invested in creating more Monks. Madrasah basically supports the smush since in this rushing tactic the Monks are likely to become the target for the defending player, who will try to kill them in order to stop them converting their units. So if the rush does not succeed or a few Monks are killed in the process, the Saracen player's economy will be less disrupted (as this tactic is costly and usually requires Market interchange of resources). Since each killed Monk returns 33 gold, this technology pays out gold-wise if the player loses four or more Monks after researching it. Unfortunately, the fact that this technology is locked behind a Castle means that often it is hard to justify even when performing a Monk rush.

Trivia[]
- Madrasah means "School" in Arabic, and is written as "ู ูุฏุฑูุณุฉู". People in the Islamic world are taught and educated about religion, Islam, and the Arabic language in Mosques and Monasteries. As much with the lack of connection between the title of the upgrade and its purpose, it could possibly explain the upgrade's relation to monks called Imams who would take the role of the teacher.
- In the Definitive Edition, it was the cheapest unique technology in terms of raw resources. Before that, it was tied with Boiling Oil.
