The Lombard functions as a exchange office where the owner can invest resources and get the two other resources back at a more favorable rate compared to the Market. An investment costs 250 of one resource and returns (without any improvements or cards which influence the rate) 125 of both other resources over time. The speed in which the investment is returned can be improved by building more Lombards, to a maximum of 5, or cards which influence the return rate. More Lombards only improve the speed at which the investment is returned; the total return on investment stays the same. The "Uffizi" Home City Card, available in the Commerce Age, allows Lombards to trickle XP while converting investments. The Medici offers 1 Lombard Wagon if used for advancing to the Commerce Age.
Originally, Lombards have 3,000 hit points. With update 13.27885, they have 2,500 hit points.
Originally, investments deposited 300 resources, with a cap of 3,000. With update 13.18214, investments deposit 250 resources, with a cap of 5,000.
History[]
“
As mercantile enterprises exploded during the early modern period, the practices of banking and money lending – frowned upon by the Catholic Church as usury, became increasingly crucial and lucrative. Material concerns trumped moral misgivings and bankers quickly became among the most powerful figures in Lombardy, a region in northern Italy. The practice soon expanded not just to neighboring regions, but also to all of Europe and beyond, where the term "Lombard" was adopted as a loanword into most local languages – denoting the professions of banking and money lending.
