Lipka Tatars are similar to Cavalry Archers. They cost less food, have a wood cost instead of coin, slightly less ranged attack, and reduced hit points, but more speed, hand attack, and a faster Rate of Fire in ranged combat. Due to their faster movement and ranged attack speed, Lipka Tatars can perform hit-and-run tactics more easily than other ranged cavalry units. In addition, their high hand resistance makes them more capable of fighting against heavy infantry units, who are slower and lack ranged resistance. Lipka Tatars are also slightly better against artillery due to their higher hand attack and multiplier. However, they should be combined with melee cavalry like Hussars to take down artillery more easily.

The House of Jagiellon ruled Poland and much of the surrounding territories during the 14th-16th centuries. Prior to and during this time, the turbulence in the lands of the Golden Horde caused another sequence of migrations as the Horde suffered defeats at the hands of its neighbors or expelled rebellious factions. One of these migratory groups, the Lipka Tatars, first entered Lithuania (later Poland-Lithuania) during the 14th century and were granted land and asylum by its lords in exchange for fealty and military service. Lipka Tatars proved to be invaluable auxiliary forces in Polish-Lithuanian armies, playing decisive roles in battles such as Grunwald-Tannenberg in 1410 and Vienna in 1683.
Historically, the Lipka Tatars settled in Lithuania in 1397, were granted asylum and given estates and a noble status in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania by Vytautas the Great.
