—Age of Empires IV description |
Lipany is a land random map in Age of Empires IV known for its large amount of Berry Bushes and cliffs that spawn along an otherwise open map.
Features[]
Lipany can essentially be thought of as Dry Arabia with cliffs and extra berries. It has the same general layout and player start positions, number and positioning of Sacred Sites, Trade Posts, and Relics, and, other than berries, it has almost the same resource distribution. The random nature of the cliff spawns is, however, enough to more considerably change the style of the map and flow of gameplay from generation-to-generation. Sometimes as little as a single small cliff can spawn on the map, making it essentially a wide open Dry Arabia clone, whereas other times longer sections of cliff can block off significant portions of the map, making it much easier to wall. Cliff features can even sometimes be completely filled in with rock, making areas of the map completely impassable.
Resources[]
Like Dry Arabia, resource generation on this map is generally balanced and evenly distributed. Despite the additional cliffs, it seems rare for resource spawns to be blocked. All resources spawn in the standard amount, aside from the obvious exception of Berry Bushes, which are more plentiful. Lipany also has several additional large circular woodlines compared to Dry Arabia.
Strategy[]
The large amount of Berry Bushes on this map greatly benefits civilizations with bonuses related to berry gathering, such as the Abbasid Dynasty, the Delhi Sultanate, and the Byzantines. The additional cliffs can also sometimes make it harder to play super aggressively. Otherwise the map follows a similar playstyle as Dry Arabia.
Trivia[]
- Lipany is a small village in the Czech Republic. Near the village, the Battle of Lipany was fought in 1434. It is considered to be the end of the Hussite Wars.
