The Levied Gunner is ranged heavy gunpowder infantry in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - The African Royals that is unique to African civilizations (Ethiopians and Hausa). It is similar to the Militiaman, Warrior, Minuteman, and Irregular of other civilizations.

Overview

Levied Gunners quickly lose hit points over time, which only stops when they have only 1 hit point remaining. Any damage taken after that will kill them, making them almost useless once this occurs.

Levied Gunners are a good tool for quickly defending Town Centers and also useful in temporary battles or to react quickly to an immediate crisis. They are also effective in large infantry armies due to their good attack and being protected by the numbers around them.

The Mass Levies Home City Card removes their hit point loss, allowing them to be used far from their original training point. However, their influence cost means that using them leaves less influence for technologies, natives warriors, and mercenaries. In addition, their weak siege damage makes them particularly vulnerable to defensive structures.

Levied Gunners do not lose hit points while garrisoned in ships.
