—In-game description |
Lamellar Armor is a technology in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - The Three Kingdoms that is unique to the Khitans and can be researched at the Castle in the Castle Age. Once researched, it causes infantry, the Skirmisher line, and the Genitour line to reflect part of the damage they receive from non-projectile attacks back to the attacker. Projectile attackers dealing melee damage like Gbetos are not affected, but ranged non-projectile attackers like Kamayuks and Steppe Lancers are affected.
The reflection does not change the damage taken by the Khitan units themselves. Instead, the attacking units take additional damage.
As an example, if a Knight (10 attack) attacks a Spearman (0 melee armor) and a Man-at-Arms with Scale Mail Armor (2 melee armor), the Spearman and Man-at-Arms will take 10 and 8 damage respectively. However, the Knight itself will take 2.5 and 2 damage respectively too while attacking them. Therefore, the returned damage is not affected by the Knight's armor, but the attacked unit's armor. Since the UI shows only the integer part of hit points, the Knight will appear to take 3 and 2 damage in cyclic order when attacking the Spearman.

Trivia[]
- All three unique units available as team bonuses (the Condottiero, Imperial Skirmisher, and Genitour) benefit from Lamellar Armor.
