Kshatriyas is a technology in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Dynasties of India that is unique to the Gurjaras and available at the Castle once the Castle Age is reached. Once researched, it reduces the Food cost of military units by 25%.
After researching both Supplies and Kshatriyas (the order does not matter), the Gurjara Militia line costs only 30 food and 20 gold (for comparison, the Gothic Militia line costs 42 food and 14 gold in the Castle Age and 39 food and 13 gold in the Imperial Age).
Strategy[]
As food is more essential until the mid-Imperial game, Kshatriyas is an important technology to research, as it will be easier to train more military units (especially their cavalry, Chakram Thrower, Siege Elephant, and Elephant Archers), making economic distribution easier to manage.
However, even with this technology, Gurjaras will struggle in trash wars, due to have nearly no Spearman line and fragile Skirmishers without Ring Archer Armor, while Hussars have less attack due to lacking Blast Furnace. While the Gurjaras have the cheapest Militia-line unit when both this technology and Supplies are researched, this unit line should not be considered in their late-game army composition, as they lack Squires and Champion upgrades as well.
History[]
Kshatriya (pronounced sha-tree-yuh), from Sanskrit kṣatra, "rule, authority", is one of the four varna (social orders) of Hindu society, associated with warrior aristocracy, and traditionally the military and ruling class.
